Rocky at Fort Moultrie with
the 19th SC re-enactors

Rocky & Patrick Brennan, author of
"Secessionville: Attack on Charleston."
Fort Lamar, now mounds of overgrown earth, was once the sight of the first
bloody Federal assault on Charleston, June 16th, 1862.

Re-enactors, a working Civil War cannon
(rebuilt to authentic specs) and some nut waving a saber around.

On the left is an actual civil war
"grapeshot" cannon ball (a birthday present to Rocky) found buried
near George Street. Center & right historical photos show grapeshot parts
and a fully assembled grapeshot load - a top & bottom iron plate, two iron
stabilizing rings, a long bolt & nut, and 9 cannon balls. Basically, this
turned a cannon into a giant point blank shotgun, with a range of about 500
yards.
